NAYS Overview

Youth sports coaches, many of which are volunteers, are the foundation of youth sports in the U.S. Those who are trained and educated on the many different aspects involved with coaching kids are best prepared to provide participants with a fun-filled, safe and rewarding experience.

The National Alliance for Youth Sports (NAYS) is the most widely used coach training program in the nation, having trained more than 3 million coaches since its inception in 1981. The NAYS training is available online for coaches to complete at their convenience; and it’s also offered on site in more than 3,000 communities nationwide.

All RYA coaches are required to complete the initial membership training and renew their membership each calendar year. In addition, sport-specific training is a requirement for all new coaches. Concussion training is also a requirement as part of the coaching certification and this membership must be renewed annually.

The initial training and/or renewal membership fee is $20 annually.

  • Sport-specific training is a one-time $5 fee for each additional sport.
  • Concussion, anti-bullying, and abuse training is free to all coaches.

All RYA baseball umpires are required to complete the initial membership training and renew their membership each calendar year. NAYS Officials membership costs are $20 annually.

Membership is also available for parents to join as a NAYS Parent for $5 annually. Parents that are NAYS members will receive a discount at RYA Concession Stands throughout the season.
